Refund & Cancellation Policy
Introduction
Because SlyAcademy is a donation-based platform and does not sell products or subscriptions, our refund and cancellation policy primarily concerns donations made to support our mission. This policy outlines when a donation might be refunded and how you can manage or cancel any recurring contributions. While we deeply appreciate every contribution, we aim to be transparent and fair in handling any issues that arise with donations.
Donations – General Policy
No Obligation: Donations to SlyAcademy are voluntary and are not required to access our educational content. When you choose to donate, you are supporting a cause (free education for all) rather than purchasing a product or service.
Non-Refundable Nature of Donations: In general, donations are non-refundable. Charitable contributions, once made, are usually final. We rely on donations to plan and fund our operations, and a refund could impact our ability to deliver services. Thus, under normal circumstances, we cannot offer refunds for a donation you have made. We encourage you to double-check the amount and frequency (one-time vs recurring) of any donation before confirming it.
However, we do understand that mistakes can happen. We have outlined exceptions below for when a refund may be granted.
Donation Refunds – Exceptions
While we stand by a no-refund policy as the default, we will review and consider refund requests on a case-by-case basis in the following exceptional situations:
Duplicate Donation or Error: If you accidentally made a duplicate donation (e.g., clicked the donate button twice and were charged twice) or if you donated the wrong amount (such as entering $1,000 instead of $100 by typo), please contact us immediately. We may refund the erroneous or duplicate portion after verifying the situation in our records.
Unauthorized Payment: If you notice an unauthorized charge on your payment method that was made as a donation to SlyAcademy (for example, someone used your credit card without permission), contact us as well as your bank/credit card provider. After confirmation, we will refund the unauthorized amount. (We may require documentation to process this, and we reserve the right to ban the associated account to prevent further abuse.)
Extenuating Circumstances: In rare cases, if a donor experiences significant hardship or change in circumstances immediately after a donation, and requests a refund soon after, we may, at our discretion, grant a refund. For example, if you set up a large recurring donation and then promptly lose your job or face a financial emergency, we empathize and will work with you.
Process for Refund Requests: To request a refund, please email us at [email protected] with the details of your donation (date, amount, method, and reason for request). We may ask for additional information to verify your identity and the donation (such as the transaction ID or the last four digits of the card used). Refund requests should ideally be made within 30 days of the donation date. Requests made beyond a reasonable timeframe will be harder to honor, especially if funds have already been allocated to programs.
If a refund is approved, we will issue it via the original payment method. For example, if you donated via credit card, the refund will go back to that credit card. Please allow some time (typically 5–10 business days, depending on the bank) for the refund to appear on your statement. We will confirm via email once the refund has been processed on our end.
Please note that any transaction fees incurred by us during the donation (e.g., credit card processing fees) might not be refunded if our payment processor does not return those fees to us. In such cases, we may refund the net amount after fees (we will communicate this to you).
Recurring Donations
If you have signed up for a recurring donation (for example, a monthly contribution):
Cancellation of Future Donations: You can cancel the recurring donation at any time to stop future charges. There are several ways to do this:
If you created an account or were provided a donor portal by our payment processor, you can log in there and cancel the subscription/donation plan.
You can contact us at [email protected] and request cancellation. Please do so at least a few days before the next scheduled donation to ensure we have time to process the cancellation.
You can also cancel through your payment provider in some cases (for example, canceling a PayPal recurring payment from within your PayPal account).
Once cancelled, you will not be charged going forward. We will send a confirmation of cancellation via email.
Refund of Past Installments: Generally, past donations in a recurring series are treated the same as one-time donations — they are not refunded except in the exceptional circumstances listed above. Canceling a recurring donation will stop future payments but does not automatically refund past contributions.
Failed Payments: If a recurring donation payment fails (due to an expired card, insufficient funds, etc.), we may notify you. We will not attempt excessively to re-charge; typically, the payment processor might try once or twice more. If it continues to fail, the recurring plan may be suspended. You’re welcome to update your payment information and resume donations if you choose.
No Products or Services for Sale
SlyAcademy does not sell any goods or services, and we do not offer paid subscriptions or memberships. Therefore:
No Product Returns: Since we don’t ship or provide physical or digital goods for sale, there is no return policy applicable to products. All content is freely accessible.
No Service Cancellations: We don’t have paid courses or consulting services that one would cancel. Users are free to stop using the site at any time with no further obligation.
If you see any charge from SlyAcademy on your financial statements and you did not donate or can’t identify it, it might be an error or unauthorized transaction – please contact us as mentioned in the refund section.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Refund & Cancellation Policy if our funding model changes or for other reasons. For example, if in the future we offer some sort of paid feature or merchandise (which we have no current plans for), we would update this page to include terms for those. Any changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. Significant changes may also be communicated via email or site notice.
