Students learn to use a wide-ranging vocabulary, the correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and to organize their ideas in a coherent and focused manner. The course encourages reading, interpretation, and analysis of different types of text and literary forms.

    • Students are assessed on their ability to read for gist and detail, and to understand inference and meaning.
  2. Paper 2: Directed Writing and Composition (Core and Extended)

    • This paper involves a directed writing task and a composition exercise.
    • Students demonstrate their understanding of a text and their ability to produce clear and coherent writing.
  3. Component 3: Speaking and Listening (Optional in some jurisdictions)

    • This component assesses the students’ speaking and listening skills in different contexts.

  3. Assessment and Improvement: Self-assessment or teacher feedback on past paper attempts can highlight strengths and areas for improvement.

  4. Technique Refinement: Understanding the marking schemes and examiner reports can refine students’ techniques in writing and responding to questions.
